“ Went for a Sunday roast. Restaurant is in a very nice location, central to Colchester. The premise of the restaurant is set over two floors, bar below and restaurant upstairs. I was impressed with the quality of the roast dinner (roast beef). The roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding were cooked as you would hope. The cauliflower cheese was excellent. Everything on the plate worked very very well. Sitting upstairs depending on where they seat you can feel slightly claustrophobic, but it's just the nature of the space that you're dealing with I guess. Overall, very, very good. I would definitely reccomend it for a Sunday Roast and I'm sure that the rest of their menu is just as good. ”
“ First time visiting the Tavern, and it was great. Friendly staff and brilliant food - the burger was delicious! ”
“ One of the best restaurants in Colchester! We went for lunch and sat upstairs on the first floor — it was quiet and felt really relaxed. The service was amazing, very attentive and friendly. We shared the T-bone steak for two, and it was absolutely delicious. Great food, great service — highly recommend and we’ll definitely be back! ”
“ OMG. So third time now we've been and somehow the food just gets better. Great decor and the service is quick and professional. Bonus being as soon as you sit down you get a bottle of still water with no charge. Why all restaurants don't do this is beyond me. Now to the food. We had Sunday roast. I had the beef and it was amazing. Also probably had the best roast potatoes I've ever had. They were epic. I had Cauliflower soup for a starter that was also delicious. Highly recommended. ”
“ We booked a birthday lunch here for around 11 people. Most people got a Sunday lunch and the food was delicious. The service was a bit slow, but I suppose when you are ordering for 11 that makes sense. The atmosphere is also great. It feels like you are having lunch in a living room, it's very cozy. We will definitely be returning again for their roasts ”
“ Excellent experience as always. Service was top notch, and the spicy lamb chops were divine. ”
“ did valentine's here with the bf and had a wonderful time - so glad they didn't force a special overpriced valentine's menu on us and had the usual set menu available still. the mussels and pork belly were great, as was the dessert and cheeseboard. service and house wine also lovely. ”
“ Can't remember a better fish main course then midweek set menu Pollock, Paprika & Anchovy Butter, Spinach, Pine Nut, Sultana, Artichoke, Aioli ”
